It may be helpful to zoom in a little bit more and/or to have an explanation of the site, so as to enhance understanding of what is significant about this particular location that is being visualized in the place the ethnographers are looking at. What are the construction workers doing? Where are the surfers going? Where is toxicity located in this place/image? Presently it is unclear and could use a bit more direct interpretation/explanation by the ethnographers.
None that I can think of--I think the image conveys clearly its ethnographic import. It may help to explain in the caption who the person is in the image, so as to have some more contextual knowledge to place them.
See previous comment about possible composition of a contrasting with archival representation and a present-day site image.
One possibility would be to juxtapose this piece of a petrochemical plant with the finished petrochemical plant. This image is already very powerful however. Another option would be to slightly lighten the shadows so a little more detail is visible.
The blurred vertical areas on either side of the image lead me to wonder if the image cropped in order to focus attention on this woman. I defer to the ethnographer on this decision. I think this image is incredibly rich in ethnographic import.
This image is rich with ethnographic import. It is a found image. I would not know how to enrich this image further.
I don't see any way to enrich this image. I think any kind of editing or addition would take away from the scale it represents.
I don't think the image needs to be enriched. It was too small for me to make out the handcuffs and the 'whites only' sign, but enlarging this section would make it impossible to show both images side by side. Describing these things in the caption was very effective in getting around this.
One way to potentially enrich the image would be to circle the politicians that are mentioned, or somehow make them visible, or annotate their appearance with relevant quotes or quotations of their failures in governance.
The image and caption are excellent visual representations of the issue at hand. However, it could be improved if I am being picky. For example, the yellow writing is a bit jarring. I wonder if the colours could be tweaked to make it more presentable, unless they were chosen for a specific reason. Again, a picky comment. The overall artificat is brilliant.
