FollowTheThings project

This project by geographer Ian Cook presents a parody of Amazon where visitors can click on an "item" and it links to an artifact (documentary, interview, dissertation projects, exhibitions) which tells the story of how that item was produced and distributed. Spatial geographies of environmental and social injustice become clear when following these items. Each item page seems to pull together quotes from different sources about that artifact, sometimes including field notes and thoughts the person who compiled the artifact. For example, if you follow the item "B'eau Pal Water", it links to a spoof made by activists Yes Men and Bhopal Medical Appeal. The writer of this page has pulled in different quotes under the content headings "Description", "Process/Methodology", "Discussion", "Impact/Outcomes", with a bibliography in the end. The authorship of these pages is mostly by undergraduate interns and graduate students.
