Robin-lea Karating is a PhD candidate at the Department of History of the University of the Western Cape (UWC). Her current research concentrates on the archaeological projects focusing on slavery at the Cape and tries to trace how these histories are represented and inscribed at sites such as museums, monuments and other places of interest. She is also interested in analyzing the concepts of rehumanization, personhood and missingness amongst others and how they relate to or are used in the scholarship around slavery at the Cape. Much of her research has been influenced by her affiliation with the Forensic History, Visual History and RSRP groups at UWC. Apart from her research activities, she has been a History tutor since 2016 at UWC and an intern at South African History Online (SAHO) from 2019-2020.
