Peter grew up in L.A.'s northern suburbs, attended liberal arts college in New York State (Vassar), and returned to L.A. to teach middle school and high school. He began his doctorate in history at UCLA in 2013 where his committee chair is Dr. Eric Avila. Dissertation: To Live and Drive in L.A.: Race and Sensations of a Postwar Western Metropolis
