Biography

Broadly my work looks at what it means to be data-driven. My dissertation research is motivated by a two-year participant observation study with the LA Data Team (2016-2018), where I studied shifts in urban governance and the turn to smart city logics in LA (and beyond). I also work / learn through community organizing efforts on related themes (housing rights, policing, and surveillance tech). Here I’m concerned about what is stake here for city dwellers (particularly those on the margins), for the labor of civil service, and for the (definition / role / aesthetics) of the city.
