Abstract | Zephyr, once a lone business venture catering to a very specific clientele in a vacant area of town, is now struggling against the gentrification of its once-bohemian surroundings, as it sits nestled between high-rise apartment buildings, music stores, and clothing shops in one of Long Beach's trendiest neighborhoods. Any business within the borders of Long Beach's Arts District is allowed to do any of the following without acquiring an entertainment permit: acoustic music performances by two musicians; film screenings; workshops and meetings; art openings; and poetry readings. |
