Critical Commentary
Dr. Greenland is Assistant Professor of Sociology, and Assistant Professor of Anthropology by courtesy, at the University of Virginia. She studies art/science technologies, cultural violence, nationalism, and art markets. Before training as a sociologist, she worked as an archaeologist and conducted fieldwork in Italy and Spain. Her book, Ruling Culture: Art Police, Tomb Robbers, and the Rise of Cultural Power in Italy, will be published by the University of Chicago Press in spring 2021.
Dr. Greenland’s presentation is titled: : "War crimes and satellite testimony at the International Criminal Court." The discussion will focus on satellite imagery and spatial stories in the Ahmad Al-Mahdi war crimes trial at the International Criminal Court in 2016.
