Critical Commentary
According to a study published by the American Lung Association, California has the worst air pollution in the US. Octavia Butler's 1993 novel The Parable of the Sower tells a story of a female protagonist who starts a movement "Earthseeds" to leave Earth and move to the outer space, when California in the 2020s becomes unlivable due to pollution, fascism, and inequality.
